Plot:- In the dystopian post-apocalyptic future depicted in Darling in the Franxx, the ruins of human civilization have left the planet. Children live in environments that are different from those of adults. Adults are eternal and live in highly developed towns inside plantations; yet, relationships and reproduction have become outmoded and unpleasant among them.
The "parasites," or artificially manufactured youngsters, lack personality and receive only the education necessary to pilot Franxx in pairs to protect humans. The kids are kept off from the adult world in settings known as "birdcages," which imitate an earlier time period, in order to help them learn the emotional reactions needed to operate Franxx.
Early in the twenty-first century, breakthroughs in mining technology allowed for the extraction of magma energy for a new, all-encompassing, low-cost energy source, which propelled human civilization forward. Scientists involved in the breakthrough establish "APE," an organization whose discoveries would have a profound impact on world politics and the global economy.
Much of humanity chose to become immortal after learning about it, even though it meant losing their ability to procreate. Papa, the chairman of the APE, is the subject of a cult of personality that all people come to revere like a deity. APE, who is currently in charge of what is left of society, forces people to flee from the now-desolate surface of Earth and settle in the somewhat safe mobile fortress-cities known as Plantations.
